Thanks so much to Catherine Carolan, Sarah Durcan, Shane Carolan, Kenny Durcan, Barry Carolan, Eileen Carolan and Katie Howley who have taken on the Mizen to Malin Head challenge picking us as one of her chosen charities
Details on the fundraiser:
“Last March myself, Sarah Durcan, Shane Carolan, Kenny Durcan, Barry Carolan, Eileen Carolan and Katie Howley decided it would be a great idea to take on a challenge to help keep our minds focused as we were in the middle of yet another lock down and to motivate us to get out and keep fit. So we decided to do the Mizen to Malin Head challenge. A total of 576km each, combined total of 4032km over 6 months. No easy feat.. So for anyone that has seen frequent sightings of us out on the roads running now you know why.
At the time I have to say I had reservations whether we would stick at it, but we set up a WhatsApp group where we track all our runs and the chat and craic alone has lifted the spirits and we have all become very competitive. For most of us we are over half-way or will be very soon and I have no doubt that I and the team will complete this challenge. So we decided to take the opportunity to fundraise for a number of charities in the hope that whatever money we can raise for these wonderful charities by doing this challenge will help them carry on doing the amazing work, and providing their valuable services.
We have chosen 5 charities very close to our hearts, 4 of which our families as a group have used their facilities and we would hope that by raising money other families can avail of their services too.
Western Alzheimer’s, St Francis Hospice, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre. Last but not least we have added Pieta house. I am sure we all know someone who has lost a loved one to suicide and this amazing charity is there to help people who have self-harmed, is feeling or have felt suicidal and also to offer counselling, therapy and support to those who have been bereaved by suicide.
So please follow us on our journey to Malin head and donate to these great charities
